As the drama is known to be based on issues in Korean society, many fans have been wondering about the storyline. So, we’ve compiled a list of 3 things you might not know about the series “Juvenile Justice”. Note: This article may contain spoilers for the entire “Juvenile Justice” series.

1. Based on a real law

“Juvenile Justice” is based on a real law that is applicable in Korean courts today. The law is called the Juvenile Protection Act and stipulates that if youth under the age of 14 violates the law, they are not criminally liable and are subject to protective measures under the Juvenile Act. These measures include community service or serving time in juvenile protection facilities (The Korea Times). These elements were all shown in the drama.

2. Based on true crime cases

Not only is the series based on a real law, but some of the cases covered in the drama have also loosely been based on real crime cases that occured in Korea. The drama takes creative license on them for dramatic effect, but many of the cases have actually happened. Cases such as the murder of an 8-year-old student by a teenager, the leak of exam papers, and the brick-throwing case are all based on true crimes, for example.

3. The character Baek SeongWu’s real-life identity

Baek SeongWu is the initial culprit suspected of having murdered the 8-year-old boy in the series. His character is male and 13 years old. However, the actor who played Baek SeongWu is actually very different from their character. Baek SeongWu was played by Lee Yeon who is a woman born in 1995. She played a character who is almost half her age and also a boy, proving that she is an incredible actress as we bought into her emotive performance.   Did you know these facts about “Juvenile Justice”?
