YoungBin and InSeong enlisted for their mandatory military service earlier this year, and RoWoon’s drama schedule conflicted with the preparation of the new album, so the group is promoting with 6 members for this comeback: JaeYoon, DaWon, ZuHo, Yoo TaeYang, HwiYoung, and Chani. But, as ZuHo would say, SF9 is and will always be nine! Also, the group has a new logo representing OF9 -standing for “Only For 9”- meaning they are always together when promoting. So, fans can rest assured that the bond among the team is as strong as before. Their last release was in November with “RUMINATION” (and ‘Trauma’). Between the two albums, the two oldest members (including the leader) enlisted for their mandatory military service a few days after the group concert “SF9 LIVE FANTASY #3 ‘IMPERFECT’”. The other members have been busy with individual activities. Such as JaeYoon (“Musical On Air”, “Another Miss Oh”, “Fantasy Tale”), ZuHo (“YeoDo”), and Yoo TaeYang (“Altar Boyz”, “Musical On Air”, “Secretly Greatly: The Last”) have been packed with musicals and/or theater play. RoWoon acted in “Tomorrow” (April-May), DaWon in “Part-Time Mello” (Nov. -Dec.), and HwiYoung & Chani in “Miracle” (June-August, overseas release). These, among other activities. FANTASY are missing YoungBin, InSeong, and RoWoon in this comeback, but FNC prepared a whole new exciting spy universe to explain why they are absent for this comeback. The “THE WAVE OF9” album is made of eco-friendly material (we love idols promoting eco-friendly activities), and it has two versions: the Ray of the Sun version and the Chillin’ at Night version. “THE WAVE OF9” is composed of six songs: ‘SCREAM’, ‘OK OK’, ‘‘Summertime Bounce’, ‘Driver’, ‘Crazy Crazy Love’, and ‘Butterfly’. ZuHo and HwiYoung participated in the lyrics of the title track ‘SCREAM’, as well as ‘Summertime Bounce’, and ‘Crazy Crazy Love’. ZuHo also participated in the lyrics of ‘OK OK’, and ‘Butterfly’ is HwiYoung’s self-composed song. The title track ‘SCREAM’ is a cooling summer song with a refreshing performance. It expresses the desire to escape from an ordinary day and enjoy a cool break together in the middle of summer. SF9 expands its spectrum through a free and light comeback. SF9 held a media showcase that Kpopmap was invited to. They shared information about their comeback and recent activities. Here is everything that you need to know. During the showcase, SF9 performed to ‘SCREAM’ with young and thrilling energy. They were wearing beautiful white and blue outfits p.e.r.f.e.c.t for this comeback. It was a heaven match for their sporty and summery stage. We’ve also got the chance to see the stage of the B-Side ‘OK OK’. JaeYoon mentioned that during the music video recording, they used an old film camera, and what they took is shown in the latter part of it. He said that he particularly liked it. HwiYoung added that he particularly liked the set of the music video, which looked like the beach and where they used surfs and sand. All this made the set look very cool. DaWon mentioned it was meaningful to him because he got to gather and work with members after a long time. Chani and HwiYoung were so cute on the set of the music video so he wanted to bite them. FANTASY would know that DaWon’s love for the members has no limit. What are your small happiness in summer and ways to enjoy summer? Ice cream for me! I love ice cream so much, especially in summer. I gather a lot and want to eat as much as I can. JaeYoon I feel happy eating the ice cream of JaeYoon by stealing it. Haha HwiYoung Yes, haha. If I buy 10, he will take 7 of them. JaeYoon To which DaWon made another joke saying that I like biting HwiYoung who is doing this because he is cute. No one can stop DaWon’s joke; FANTASY will know. Yoo TaeYang got back to the topic more seriously and shared that he likes looking at the beach and enjoying the fresh weather by swimming, especially diving. Moving on, members talked more about the songs they participated in. ZuHo explained that he couldn’t include a song this time because he felt he was facing limitations as he wrote songs of similar genres. So when he saw HwiYoung working hard on songs, he was thankful and thought it would be good to have a new color on the album. “HwiYoung has a lot of good songs; please look forward to it.” HwiYoung talked about his song ‘Butterfly’. He felt it was an honor to be on the album, and he mentioned that he tried to incorporate SF9’s youth in the song. HwiYoung also added that he feels that all the members spent even more effort on this album since they are only 6 for the first time for songs and performance. Members discussed the difference between recording with 6 members instead of 9. JaeYoon mentioned that they always do it at 9 so of course this time each member had more parts, more things to pay attention to in every step, and more responsibility to fill the empty spots. It was new for them. Since each member had more time to show what they prepared, there are more opportunities for each member to show their own colors, so a comeback with 6 members would show other charms from a comeback at 9. HwiYoung added that at first, he felt the absence of the hyungs but that the 6 of them were working hard to fill the empty spot. When asked about YoungBin, InSeong, and RoWoon’s reaction to their new songs, DaWon mentioned that he keeps in touch a lot with YoungBin and that the leader shared feedback along with other members in the group chat where members share ideas for the performance. These feedbacks gave him even more strength to prepare for this comeback. When asked about nickname they would like to have this time. JaeYoon said that the term ‘으른섹시’ translated ‘mature/adult sexy is used but the term ‘으른청량’ translated by ‘mature/adult refreshing’ is not used. Since SF9 brought its own ‘freshness’ and combined with ‘mature/adult sexy’, the ‘mature refreshing’ nickname would suit well to them. On a side note, JaeYoon mentioned that he feels that one of the strengths of SF9 is having physical fitness and visual, so all the members work hard on self-management. Recently, he used the room with DaWon for the London event and he saw DaWon take a lot of things good for his body. He was impressed and learned from this self-management. About this comeback’s goals and their promise, DaWon says that they are looking forward to meeting the fans after a long time face to face in music shows.
